Welcome! You've found your way to Jason Charnick's professional resume and portfolio site. Here you can find out a little more about me, what I've done and what I can do, as well as see samples of my work in many different capacities.

Currently working as an Editor, Post Production Supervisor and Information Technology Supervisor at Framework Studio after stints at Apple Computer, Inc., Moviola Education Center, and Technicolor Creative Services, I am always looking for ways to display my creative and technical skills to the entertainment industry and beyond. I have extensive education in the film and television industry, working professionally as a freelance post-production supervisor, editor, DVD author & graphic designer, with knowledge of all commonly used formats. I also know the Los Angeles area very well, and have dealt directly with many studios and post facilities.

Since completing my formal education, I have been able to gain experience and knowledge with industry-standard applications simply by teaching myself how to use them... without the aid of books or classes. In fact, I was able to parlay my self-education of Final Cut Pro into the wonderful chance to work at the first retail store in Apple history, where I served as their first-ever Final Cut Pro instructor, teaching everyday individuals how to master this highly daunting and extensible program.

My recent work in the work in the industry, both in the traditional studio system as well as other video production departments, has only served to reinforce my work ethic, strengthen and refine my editing skills, as well as having taught me the procedures involved in production and post-production. In addition to my editing work, I also am half of Upstart Film Collective, a small company dedicated to independent filmmaking, talent reel editing, and DVD authoring. While at UFC, I have worked with many clients as an editor, DVD author, and graphic designer.

Also an independent filmmaker, I have produced many films, including Stephen King's Night Surf, a short film based on the story of the same name. I also designed, authored, and produced the special edition DVD, creating all motion menus and cover art, as well as producing all supplemental materials. Samples from this work, as well as my editor's reel, a movie trailer and a demo I edited for Pinnacle Systems, Inc.'s CineWave product are available here at my online portfolio. You can also watch full-length versions of my latest films, including Expiration Date, a Grindhouse parody, 5:19 To Molina, a funny documentary about my personal attempt to out run San Francisco Giants catcher Bengie Molina in a race to first base, and Close, But No Cigar, my dramatic directorial debut about a well-known urban legend.

Back in October 1999, upon securing an internship at Montana Edit, a small edit facility in Santa Monica, I made a decision to move cross-country from New York City in order to see what wonderful opportunities there were to take advantage of in Southern California. I feel that I've been quite successful so far, and I'm sure that I can be a positive addition to your project or organization in any capacity. Just five minutes of your time to peruse this site, and I'm sure I can demonstrate this for you. Thank you for your time and consideration, and thanks for visiting!

Respectfully yours,

Jason Charnick
